Copying a recording off Sky+

Hi all.
This is a bit of a long shot, but I am getting a bit frustrated by this and it is possible that someone here might just have the answer.
MrsD2B has SKY. In the corner of the room sits this big TV as solid as the Elgin marbles. I cannot access the connections behind it. But what I can do is access the connections at the back of her Sky+ box.
What I want to do is copy some programms that she has saved on the hard drive of her Sky+ box, onto the hard drive of my DVD recorder, so that I can then burn them onto disc.
Looking at the users forum section on the Sky website, other people have tried what I want to do and it appears that it can be done.
Looking at the questions page on the website, there is a description of how to do a copy. So it should be possible.
Looking at the user manual for my recorder, a Sony, it does cater for various different connection scenarios, including those of a second DVD recorder or a Freeview box. But not a Sky+ box!
On the back of the Sky+ box are two Skart sockets, TV and VCR. On the back of my Sony recorder are two Skart sockets, Decoder and TV. I have experimented with each permutation, without any joy.
What happens is that I do a test copy. Then when I replug to playback and go into the list of recordings, there is an entry for my test recording. However, when I play it, I just have a blank screen. When I play another previous recording that I made, that plays back OK, so its not the playback side that's at fault.
I also tried a channel setup, but it returned with no channels found.
I have contacted Sony Customer Services and have had a reply, judging from the name, he may well be from a certain country renown for call centres. Reading through what he has suggested, I think he does not understand the problem, for I think he has given the wrong answer.
So, here we are. Has anyone done this please?
Thanks, Alan
