Does anyone know which koolstop/swissstop pads should be used on a Rdigeback Panorama?
I should be getting my Rdigeback Panorama in a week or so and want to change the pads as soon as it arrives.

The slide in inserts for V-brakes should fit.

Yes, from what I can see it should be V brake cartridges/inserts, just wanted to make sure before purchasing.

I have the same bike - suggest you change the brakes instead to Tektro 720's. I found the Shimano ones pretty poor. I bought Koolstops to fit to the 720's but have never got round to it, finding the Tektro ones ok.

I have the same Shimano brakes on two different tourers with kool stop dual compound pads and find them to be great. Would highly recommend them.

Why?

Because stock pads tend to be complete pants especially in the wet.

Really? When I bought some of those Shimano canti's I changed the pads because the Shimano compound was sold as a wet weather compound - fine for the wet, but they would eat rims for breakfast.
I too changed the canti pads for Koolstop.

I'm actually using Shimano pads at the moment for the express purpose of wearing down my rims  Why? Because I bought a dodgy pair of rims, which in order to smooth out the wobbly brake tracks the Shimano pads have been deployed with great success. They're fine in the rain and boy can you hear that aluminium being worn away. And then see it in the excess grey sludge around the bike.

Just from my very limited experience of the two new bikes I have purchased in the recent past, even the Secteur Comp I own was very scary with wet rims using the pads it came with, immediately changed to KoolStops.

I thought V-brake pads and cantilever pads had differing profiles :?: , in any case why not try the pads that come on the bike first before you start to mess about, half the time people reckon x pad has improved braking (& half the time it may well do) but I reckon a lot of it is psychological and if one were able to check there probably wouldn't be a great deal in it and as much to do with actual set up.

I bought some Tektro's, 520's I think, for my Panorama build (same brakes different pads). I found that they didnt quite fit right on the canti studs, too much play when the bolt was done up, as the mounting sleeve of the brake arms depth was slighly smaller than the length of the stud, so there was a couple of mm that the arms could slide up and down between the base of the stud and the head of the bolt.

I then went for the r550's and initially they seem great, setup seemed quite easy and they stop well for the moment but have yet to put some miles on the bike. Coming from v brakes I was a bit worried but happy so far.

The tektros I'll try on my restore project, if no good they'll go in the bin lol.

So the kool stop pads will fit to the shimano shoes then? straight swap?

Please don't do that. Sell em on :)

Yes.

It's reassuring to hear someone whose come from V brakes say that canti's are actually ok :D

I have the BR550's too. The thing I hate most about any brakes is if they squeal. I've got squealage down to a minimum now of just heavy braking down steep hills.

I did want vee brakes on this bike but there was so much agro to get them working with travel agents etc, I gave up and went full circle to the 550s which is what ridgeback specify on them in the first place. The job was much easier with the bridge wire with the sheath centering the cable correctly, made for a seemingly simple setup considering I'm new to them, unless I've missed something  plus the nice shiny finish always helps :D

I've not had any problems with squeeling yet, but the washers on the shoes should help with setting the toe in.
