Thinking of swapping Shimano ring for TA

Needing a new front big ring I thought I'd try a TA instead of a Shimano, they look a bit sturdier, and a bit cheaper, any thoughts?

I replaced my Shimano stock rings with Stronglight when the time to change came. They lacked the shifting ramps etc of Shimano but for me that wasn't an issue.

I have changed out the front rings on both my bikes with TA rings and they function just as well as Shimano. I bought mine from Spa Cycles who always provide an excellent service.

TA in my experience last between two and four times longer than Shimano. I have managed to wear down Shimano middle rings in under 1000 miles off road. They seem to be made of very soft aluminium compared to the TA alloy.

Thanks guys I'll be having a chat with my LBS in the morning. I know he's got a couple in stock so I'll ask him to put one on one side for me :D

I'm disappointed with the stronglight middle chainrings (no ramps/pins), both mine and my wife's seemed to have gone out of shape and worn quite badly during our end to end.

have got raceface middle rings on order.

the TA outer rings are looking fine, though they don't get as much use as the middle.
