Has anybody here camped their way along the transam route (ACA) unsupported?
How much do they cost? What about snakes, bears and general horrid things like that?
What was the longest stretch you had to ride without finding water?

I've used the transam from Yellowstone to Kansas during a longer tour. Camping cost varies from free in town parks or public land through hiker biker sites in national parks or state parks from $5 - $20. You'll find other cheap or free places either mentioned on the maps or word of mouth from other riders. My favourite spots were small town parks in Kansas. Free camping, good facilities, free outdoor pools. Usually free wifi nearby at the town library. Tribune, Kansas is excellent. I even forgive them the piped music in the main street. It has nice free shaded camping, outdoor pool, and an excellent diner - the Chatterbox.
I only saw one bear. Most riders won't see any bears. The main thing is not to cook in your tent or store food or toiletries in it. In the national parks there is often steel bear boxes. If camping away from official sites hang your food in a tree at least 100m from your tent.
Water isn't a problem. Never more than about 60 miles between services. Long stretches without services are noted on the maps. Jeffrey City - Lander, Wyoming is one of the longer stretches.

This is a great piece of kit for storing food and smellies outside the tent so you dont have rodent etc gnawing through your bags/tent
