Thorn Audax MK3 Seat Stays.

Post by Edwards »

I am after a bit of information about the seat stays. Could some other owners check their bikes for me and let me know if the stays are round or flattened off in the area of the brake bridge.
This is to do with an accident damaged bike.

Thanks for your cooperation.

the pdf brochure

http://www.sjscycles.com/thornpdf/Thorn_Audax_Mk3.pdf

has a pic of the brake bridge area; no signs of any great flattening.

Can't SJS tell you this BTW?

cheers

Thanks Brucey they were shut by the time I had chance to look at the bike. The flattening is not obvious but you can more feel it in the tubes. It is definitely scrap and it was more curiosity plus being able to give something else to the insurance.

If I do not get anything here I will phone them but I do not have to rush yet.

They are definitely flattened on mine to some extent (about 2008 model year). Although how much I can't say without checking. But it was something I remember noticing with interest when I got the frame.

I hope you and your bike are OK!

Thanks I did wonder as it seemed so regular if you get what I mean.

The bike is a write off for certain as it is only just a year old that should not be a problem. The wife who was riding it at the time is in the QE hospital with a fractured vertebra and waiting now for an MRI scan. For what I do not know.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I imagine the fractured vertebra was diagnosed by X-ray......other imaging systems give better definition of, for example, soft tissue. It appears that they are making the best possible investigation of her injuries, which can only be a good thing. Accurate diagnosis leads to effective treatment and best recovery.

Colin she had a CT scan in A&E I was there all day. The delays were caused by them getting the number of people needed to move her.
There is a plan for an MRI scan as well. I should know a bit more later today.
The hospital is the new Queen Elizabeth witch is very near to us. They are very good there as it is the one used by the military for the Iraq and Afgan injuries. The care has been second to non even down to an A&E doctor from there who was on his way home after a night shift stopping at the scene and taking charge of moving her.
So the prospects look as good as they can be.

Thanks again for all the best wishes.

Mine is 2009/10 ish. The stays are round where the brake bridge is attached, but oval, long axis sideways, between bridge and dropouts. That#'ll be the built in comfort...
Sorry to hear about your wife. I wish her a full and speedy recovery. At least, as you say, she's in a good place for it.
