Planning Ade for European Campsites

Post by Paul-S »

I have used this site for a few years as an Ade to planning tours in new country's.

You can also get a Custom POI file for the country of choice from the links at the bottom of the home page.

Cheers,

Paul.

I use the same site myself but I don't think its updated to often as I have found a few times that campsites listed have been closed down so probably better to check out the status of the campsites your going to use before leaving home against another online campsite guide or Google.

Hi JohnB and others,

Your remark about the updates isn't correct.
The data have been and will be updated at least 10 times a year!
The problem is that I cannot check myself every campsite (more than 30.000!) every week! So, I need the help of your all and on my website I ask you to send me your comments!
Please help me to improve my data for the benefit of our all. It's the only way to become a complete reliable dbase.

Regards,
Archie

Yes Archie I should have probably said campsite information may not be current for the reasons you suggest rather than website not being updated

Your post also confirms what I stated, that its best to check campsite information on your site against another online campsite guide in case campsites status have changed and your users have not made you aware of it that you may update and modify their information.

The book has a major omission; campsite addresses are not routinely included. Its a case of going to the area/town and searching for signs. Its also organised awkwardly but that's solveable. it may list 10,000 campsites but that doesn't mean they are all going to be there/open.

On a recent trip, when doing the planning, I just worked out roughly where I was likely to be each evening and then just Googled "Camping St Dennis" or wherever it was. This tends to throw up a list of campsites although you need to be careful as some of them could be miles from where you want to be. To keep the cost down try "Camping municipal St Dennis". I have never had a bad municipal although some are better than others - e.g. free hot showers or not and the skinflints have a better chance of saving a bit of money on these sites by arriving late and leaving early . Not that I would condone such behaviour!
