Campsite Tynemouth Sunderland area

Post by pete75 »

Anyone know of a campsite in the area around Sunderland and Tynemouth that takes tents?

About 5 years ago I camped at a site in South Shields the facilites were very good. If you need more info I will have to look through my old notes but let me know.

Good site here for checking by campsite locality.

Just click on the map on the location and the campsite details and reviews for that site are supplied.

A search of UK campsites will probably be a waste of time as the site I used isn't listed as taking tents. The warden does however allow backpackers and cycle campers.

I think the one I used was Lizard Lane, and I believe it was council owned. Again I can check my notes if you need further info.

Thanks for this bikepacker. I'd seen Lizard Lane in the guides and assumed it was caravans only as are most of the others in the area apart from one which charges £20 a night which is a bit of a no go considering a night in some of the travel lodge type hotels is about the same.

Probably too late for the OP but in case anyone else looks at the thread - this is a super campsite, very bike-friendly.
