Thermarest NeoAir inflatable mattress. Slightly more awkward to get in to the chair sleeve than a self-inflating T-Rest but it does work and is very comfy.

Just make sure you hang onto it when getting off it in a strong wind! :)

last time out I took a small 3 legged stool from the pound shop. Weighs about 300g but it was too short [6'2"]for me, apart from that it was fine. I've since found a taller one from the same shop which is very comfy and weighs 400g. But debating whether it is worth dragging it along with me.

The problem with the conventional 3 legged stool is that the legs sink into the ground if it is anything other than bone hard. Then, when you pull it out, the plastic end caps get left in the ground. Gerrrr!.

Yes they do sink but you can balance it up again. How far can they sink? Not been a problem up to now. I,ve recently purchased a cheap mesh hammock which is 300grams and would make a nice seat or somewhere to lounge in the day.

I have a small 30x30 cm closed cell foam mat that folds in three. It keeps me warm and dry, and weighs next to nothing. I also have a 280 gram three legged Hagloffs stool, but I mostly keep it at home, as it is not very comfortable, and clumsy to store. Less is more.

Using by habit tents that are large enough to sit in comfortably - with large well ventilated vestibules that give me protection in poor weather or convert to an awning in good weather it is my custom to sit on my bottom in my tent either on a fleece or if it is cold my uninflated thermarest folded in three and cook my dinner. More can often be better.

1. Front pannier full with cloths
2. Hammock
3. Lafuma chair if I dont mind taking the extra kilo (great back support after a day on the road)

I sit on either:
The tent laid out before I put it up / inside it if it is up, or
Thermarest/sleeping mat if there's no risk of puncturing it
The ground if it is dry
My heels - I mastered the art of crouching/squatting and can sit like that for nearly an hour at a time I reckon and it's comfy. I guess that's what happens when you spend best part of 2years in Africa. And I have dodgy knees - it's amazing what the body can be trained to do. Bit out of practise now!

I take a little plastic stool. I became fed up with rummaging around campsites for bits of plank and breezeblocks to make something to sit on. Those stools are a couple of pounds from Wilkinsons or similar. I can get it into an Ortlieb pannier, just, but it is much handier carried on the outside.

The front basket was a one-off experiment that I've not repeated.

If you get a little gas stove you won't need to carry all that peat either.

My piece of closed cell foam is different, but the idea is the same.

Hi,
I dont spend alota time sitting, whilst on route its grass, on site (thats wild camping, never use sites) in tent when up, just before I sleep.
If its wet on ground I pull out me trusty Plastic bag :!:
I have various plastic bags, you could use a large bin liner, cut the sides and open flat. You then have a body sized sheet of plastic.
No chance you will get a wet bum :)
Very light at 40 grams, or thicker at 60 grams :!:
Cheap and easily replaced, I find this better than a small sit mat or bag as you can lie flat to get out of the wind.
