Way of the Roses

Well I completed the Way of the Roses, but sadly lost my camera after coming out of Pately Bridge. It was an awesome experience though, completed over five days. I camped for three nights and took b the other two. The climb out of Settle and the downhill ride into Pately Bridge were something else. Some friends met and took some pictures for me in Driffield and I purchased a disposable camera in Bridlington and got some kind folks to take pictures for me. All in a really great experience for the LEJOG the next, which I have considered doing with an organised group. Despite packing to a tight list I took far to much especially in clothes and packet food.... and didnt even use my cooker and camping set. Still they are there for the LEJOG next year. T hanks for all your help and advice in preparation. barbelfisher

Well done.
Sorry to hear about the camera. have you checked to see if it's been handed in? I was once zooming down another big hill in that area (there are plenty of them) when a kind motorcyclist drew alongside and instead of displaying the blackboard, they'd picked up the thermal top which had dropped out of my unfastened saddlebag.

I have checked with the stores and also contacted the police but to no avail, it will teach me to be more careful next time.

Congratulations. That might be next years mini tour for me. Is the route now well signed?

The majority of the route is well signposted, unless it is me though, I am sure some places people have swung the signs around for fun. Along the river Lune I ended up in a Sainsburys carpark before realising I should have been going through a grotty graffiti scrawled underpass. I also ended up going on the road to hull (Chris Rea lol) after coming across the same sign going different ways, both heading towards the yorkshire Wolds, as in towards Bridlington. Getting out of York was a bit of a nightmare as well. I think the ride from Driffield to Bridlington was the nicest though, or was that me wanting to get home?

Probably too late, but there is a trick with cameras.
We always used to carry a small "Business Card" with name, address and telephone number then photograph this on the first frame of each roll of film so that if the film was lost it was identified.
On a more modern digital camera we used a simple photo package to create a "photo" with name, mobile and email. Copythis to the card and "protect" so that it cannot be erased accidentally when you clear or download the card
This way if you lose the camera and someone finds, the camera has contact details and there is a good chance of recovering it
It has worked for people I know.... although in one case the finders kept the camera, but returned the card. Still at least the photos were recovered.

I did the same thing, last year (and despite having GPS to guide me).
