I'm thinking of getting one of the above . But being as there are so many different manufacturers and models on the market . . i thought asking advice on this forum would be sensible to do .
All i want is a reliable basic model with the following functions .
MPH
Adverage journey speed
Total milage
Trip milage
Anymore functions would be wasted on me .
Oh, and one final request . . one that is waterproof . I sometimes find that the claim "waterproof" is not all it seems .

The old Halfords speedo met all those criteria, so they discontinued it.

A smear of Vaseline across the terminals of the speedo body helps to prevent the signal getting "lost" in extreme wet weather for any speedo.

I would avoid wireless ones, they are not reliable in my experience and double your chance of battery failure.

Sigma BC506 does all except the trip average speed. I have several and have been pleased with their durability (except when run over ).
BC906 would seem to do what you want.

I was going to say that I had a spare unused one I'd sell for not very much, but having googled it to find the name of it, I notice it's a bit of a bargain from a proper retailer anyway...

Does rely on you having a reasonable bit of space on the bar for it, though. (The one above lists just the standard-diameter bar clamp, but mine came with both standard and oversize ones.)

I've also got a used wireless Sigma BC1609 that I might be tempted to offload, but that's less cheap-and-cheerful.

+1 for the Sigma BC 906. My wife and I have these on several of our bikes. About £17 and will do all you want. They are pretty reliable, even in the wet and run off a single CR2032 watch battery.

I've got a Cateye Velo 8 and it's good. Also a budget Halfords on another bike, worth having.

Plus one for the Velo8, the Velo5 is cheaper but doesn't have average speed

+1 for the Cateye Velo 8. It's never let me down, although it did once tell me I did a max speed of 300mph which made me smile. The new models have a calorie counter which I find completely useless.

I've been using Sigmas for years ( BC800's (5 in service)old model but the new ones are just as good so I'm told) hail rain or shine they just keep going with a battery change about every couple of years or so.
Highly recommended.

The Sigma model looks about right .

A Garmin800 does all this too and some more, much more

Even the bit about changing* the batteries every two years.
Though I am managing six years in my Halford's speedo!

* that includes recharging them.

Which is the advantage of cycle computers over smart phones which need charging every few hours!

Magnet goes on the spokes, sensor goes on the fork leg, computer goes on the bars. The sensor talks to the computer wirelessly. No idea how reliable the wireless is on the Trek as I've not used it -- I've found my Sigma faultless though.
