Hi all

Really want to do this ride but just spent hours on phone trying to book bike spaces on trains.

Travelling from Didcot Parkway to Branstaple you have o change train at Exeter St David....I can book a bike space to there but it would appear you are unable to book a space on the contacting train (Exeter St David to Barnstaple)

Really worried about the risk on then not being able to catch the connecting train.

Any ideas or recommendation ???

Thanks for any help and your time

Regards

Mike

That train is notorious for overcrowding generally. Add to the fact that the Tarka Trail coastal cycle way starts just off the end of the platform. This means that bikes would take over the train if they allowed booking. Stay away from commuter times, holidays and weekends and you should be fine. ( I live in North Devon)

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my wobbly bog brush using hovercraft full of eels

From my experiences of travelling between Barnstaple and Exeter, the trainsets used are 2 car DMUs. I've never known services using these sets to need booking for bikes but I might be wrong.

Another thing to watch out for on this service is the blonde trolley dolly from Exeter airport. A couple of times I've caught the train back to Barnstaple and she's been on the train distracting me

Services are almost hourly (but fewer on Sundays) so if you can't get on a train there is not long until the next.
