Green ink shortage
Green ink shortage
As an inveterate writer of letters to newspapers I am used to torrents of abuse from readers who disagree with me.The same applies to internet forums. I noticed a cartoon recently which highlighted a side issue of rise of the internet. There is a crisis in that suppliers of green ink are suffering badly with loss of sales and therefore profit. I do not now write to newspapers as before but on this forum I have dared to criticise the behaviour of some cyclists. Some have gone to inordinate lenghts in condemnation of my views (none of it is made up by me) which they are entitled to do. In the past this would have been done in green ink and I kid you not I have received lots of letters in green ink when I used to write in favour of fish farms for example. My younger son makes his living from wind farms but best not go there.I only now get abuse on line and no letters since my name is now not available. Spare a thought for the manufacturers of green ink who are now virtually on the breadline due to the rise of the internet.

That's a waste of good green!
It's a dilemma.
If there's a shortage then we should save it, but if the shortage is caused by not using it then will using it make it better or worse? Perhaps worse in the short term and then we can start bathing in it long term...
Re: Green ink shortage
Now there's a shortage some of us can engage in conspicuous consumption to show how wealthy we are.

Or maybe they just disagree with some of your views? Condemnation seems a bit out of order!
Re: Green ink shortage
In the RN, commanding officers wrote in red on official papers ........ but green? Isn't that reserved for admirals?

Mick my ID card was signed in green, I think police ones were also like this.
In the thread that started this I felt like writing in green about the pedal cycles on motorways and those that can ride at 40mph.
But thought better of it because if I do some would immediately turn into
monsters.

Re: Green ink shortage
While it is true that the use of green ink in letters written to news papers has reduced in recent years, as has ink use in publishing the papers themselves due to falling circulations, other uses of green ink have increased to compensate. For instance colour Liquid Crystal Displays make use of it, even when only displaying white text. And camera image sensors with bayer filters use rather more of it than you might expect. There has never been a better time than now to invest in green ink!

Not being British like the rest of the Tiger Pens crew, I was fascinated a while back to learn that green ink is considered the medium of the lunatic fringe in the UK.
