Front mech

Sorry another problem with a front mech I brought a tourer of ebay which great bike however front cable came loose and gears went out ,

I am having real trouble setting it up the front mech as i said its a triple running shimmano 9 speed front mech with a 8 speed rear, as I said it was running ok

guess my question best way to set up a front mech !!

look up the front mech on the shimano website, it gives you the full setup instructions that you get with every new mech.

With the cable uncoupled the mech will go to the low gear(granny ring) stop screw.Making sure the gear lever is in the lowest gear(granny ring)position and any cable adjusting screws round about the middle of their range,connect the cable back up to the mech with the cable taut(not under too much tension)the gears should work ok,With any adjustment taken up by the cable adjusters.
Make sure you're connecting the cable to the mech on the correct side of the pinch screw (there should be a groove indicating where the cable goes).If the stop screws haven't been disturbed all should be well if the they have these should be adjusted to suit the extremities of the chainset's range first.
Also make sure the mech is at the right height above the chainset ie the mech cage should clear the big ring by about 3mm.

PS,you don't mention what gear change method is used ie STI,or D/T levers etc but the above method should work for either.
