What seatpost do I need?

Post by Alex L »

I recently bought an old Ridgeback hybrid and I need to change some components. I've measured the seatpost diameter best I can and I get 2.5cm. Other ridgebacks from around 1993 seems to be 2.64 so I'm guessing that is the real measurement.

Some more details: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=68801

Could I get away with a 2.68. Something like this:

You'll need an inverse shim.

the size of the extant seat post may be marked on it. That or measure it carefully using vernier calipers. If it 'wobbles' in the frame at the base of the pin a little, and/or the seat lug ears are nipped in more than they should be (non-paralell slot, etc...) you may get away with a 0.2mm larger dia. seat post. But not a lot more than that....

It says on it

proponent
260
92.11

I assume that means 260mm, and production in Nov 1992

it is possible it actually is meant to say 26.0mm, but the '.' is faint?

-just a thought. Verniers will say for sure....

Definitely doesn't have it stamped in like the other number but it could be a misprint or something.

EDIT: I did mean that it probably is 26mm not 260mm

My mid-90's Ridgebacks both have 26.0mm seatposts. One has the same Tange Lightweight Cr-Mo sticker that yours has.

Thanks to all posters. Pretty sure now it is 26.0mm so going to order one from elsewhere. :)
