Review screen quotes

I have only just realised - so this has taken me a long time - that the "Post review" screen, which gives a poster the opportunity to amend a post before submission in the light of posts submitted since they began scribing, does not offer the option of easily making an attributed quote from those new posts. That seems odd, bearing in mind that that screen exists to allow comment on the new stuff to be made.

I have just come up against that limitation.

No, but I thnk you can grab some text and stick it between the quote and /quote you get from the quote button.

I've noticed this many times.

I copy (Cmd/A and then Cmd/C) what I've written and go back to the forum and then start again, then paste (Cmd/V) my epistle into the amended post with new quotes as necessary.

Presumably we were on the same thread about speed limits for commercial vehicles. I began a rambling post and when I tried to submit it, there had been sveral posts from you, hexhome and probably meic. I modified it and had another go, but there was a whole lot more to look at. That was when I noticed the absence of an attributed quote facility. Eventually, I posted, intending to edit my post with quotes but the speeders  were leaving me behind with an increasingly irrelevant post so I deleted it.

I can't think why I've not noticed before because plenty of people post much faster than I do. On reflection, it's because if comment is necessary, I usually add a PS and address a comment directly to the new poster.

I write some postsi n wordpad as suggested above, especially if they contain a lot of quotes or links. Of course. that generally avoids the post review screen because opening a reply, pasting then submitting is quite quick, even for a slowcoach like me.

This has also explained to me why there are sometimes unattributed quotes which can be a bit frustrating because if it's a longish thread and you want to find a short quote, it makes it a lot harder if you don't know who wrote it.

Quite often I dont attribute a quote because I dont really want to "argue" with the person, it is the thing that was said which I want to highlight.
At other times I wish to emphasis who said what, though this is not a hard and fast rule, if I accidentally do not follow my normal system, I am not necessarily doing it deliberately.

One way of producing long posts is to use a text editor (this post was written in word) and then you can go back to it and edit it before posting in the event that the situation has progressed while you were writing it. If it's still relevant you can simply copy and paste.

It's a method I use on another (non-cycling) forum I'm involved with.
