Hello all,
a few weeks ago, or months, I bought a mint second hand Carrera Subway one for commuting to and from work.
When I bought it, he offered me some full cover mudguards for a tenner, so I took them.
The front ones bolt on where the reflector is, and then you have the 2 struts either side that attach to the mounting points near the base of the forks - I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, we fitted just the front this evening, and no matter how garishly I bend the metal struts out I don't seem to be able to get enough reliable/consistent clearance so the tyres don't rub
So.... do I forget about them, bin them, and look for something else, and if so, what recommendations do people have?
I know I can go for clip ons for front and rear, but is there a proper full mudguard solution that will work for this bike?
And if not, what clipons would people suggest??
Many thanks
Daniel B

Which problem do you have: stays are too short. so that mudguard cannot be put far enough from the hub, or mudguard too narrow, so that the stays are too close together at the the tyre? Either way, it looks as though you should take them back and either exchange them for the right ones, or get your money back: the man sold them to you for THAT bike, so they should fit.
If I am being too simplistic - plese forgive me....
1. The bracket at the brake bolt can be raised or lowered on the bolt to improve clearance, and can be bent forward or bakward to align the mudguard curve (approximately to the tyre.
2. The steel "rods" should attach via some sort of sliding attachment. It is the sliding along these that alters the clearance.

Thanks for your replies,
to clarify, i bought the bike second hand from a private individual - he had bought it for his son 2 years ago, but it was deemed too nickable ot use in London, and so has sat in the garage and had never been used.
He bought the guards from Halfords, who clearly told him they fitted, and there was no reason to fit them, as it wasn't being used.
He hasn't done me over, just that Halfords don't know what they sell.
These, by the looks of it, are fairly basic cheapy plastic mudguards, and I believe I have exhausted any semblance of clearance that is available to me - I will check out that other thread, and likely look towards the SKS recommendations.
Many thanks
Dan
