Carrier fit battery rear lights

Post by tentman »

My pannier rack has a bracket/tab overhanging the mudguard. I cannot find a battery back light that will fit it. My old Vista light had a simple bolt that went through the bracket into a thread in the back of the light, but no-one seems to make lights like these anymore. Anyone any suggestions please?

one standard is to have two holes 80mm apart. This;

will fit. The B&M 'toplight' will fit 80 or 50mm spaced holes. Cateye do something similar, too.

cheers

Don't those tab-like brackets take Cateye, if you dismantle the Cateye bracket somewhat?
I should coco.

maybe, if you put a screw through the middle of the big bracket, you mean?

These are what you get with a fancy automatic (motion and light sensitive) cateye btw

If the bracket is welded with a single hole? (reflector type). You need to prefabricate a small strip of steel to accommodate light brackets with dual fixing points, but these are inclined to move in use with a single main bolt.

Would recommend fitting two Blackburn type reflector brackets to the carrier base plate if present? Positioned to suit light dimensions. Or P clips fitted to the carrier frame.

Previously utilised Brompton rear reflector mounting brackets for different light designs Also Zefal rack light brackets- suitable for carriers with 8mm OD frame bars.

I have one of these - works fantastically for a smart rear light

With a bit of fiddling, I have a Raleigh Astrum in one.

I run this light on my rear rack - it's designed to fit the standard lug on the rear of the rack and is very bright with good battery life. Only gripe is that the two rows of LEDs have a separate button, which have to be cycled through (I think) 4 modes each time it's turned on/off!

You can hold both buttons down for a couple of seconds to switch off. It's not much quicker, but at least you don't need to keep track of how many times you've pressed each button :)
