Campagnolo axle length

Post by Vetus Ossa »

Hello Campag experts.

I seem to have forgotten all I knew about early campag components, so am hoping someone here can enlighten me please.
Velobase tells me that both the Record 1049 and Super Record 1049/A chainsets require a 112mm axle....so why is there a 114mm one?
I ask as I have a 112mm bottom bracket, and am considering buying a 1982 Super Record chainset, and would rather not have any problems fitting it. I appreciate there is only 2mm difference...so what gives?

Thanks in anticipation :)

it might be that it is as simple as (IIRC) the Italian BB size being 70mm wide instead of 68mm wide.

hth

Thanks Brucey, but I have seen English treaded bottom brackets in both axle lengths.

the other possibility is that they changed the length when they went from 120mm OLN to 126mm OLN, perhaps...?

The other one is that they used to do a triple in NR.... maybe the 114 is for that?

-just a thought....

Thanks for the link rjb, but like Brucey, I am also a tad confused. I think I will just have to try it and hope for the best :?
