Christmas Humbug Sin Bin

I started making a grumpy comment on a thread then realised it was probably me not feeling particularly Christmassy. The post was in the thread about getting to Bicester and I was going to write:

"I am tempted to ask "why would anyone want to go to Bicester?" but then see this is where the OP is based so I suppose I must accept that as a valid excuse, just."

I then went on to list all the down-sides of the Bicester area and my horrible memories of trips up the A34 to reach the Army base there but decided this was all a bit too dispiriting and of course, completely irrational.

So in the end I didn't write my rant where it was originally going to appear but instead have created this new Sin Bin Thread which I hope others may use to dump any posts they were about to send which on re-reading are a bit grumpy and not really in keeping with the Season but which they are loathe to delete.

So, peace and goodwill to all Men - even those who live in Bicester.

Not them in great Yarmouth though, nope. They can (and probably will) have a miserable one.

Maybe I should spend the next couple of weeks in here. Oh no, no need, I am away from the world until it's all over anyway. :D

At work. :(

I've never been to Bicester, I don't even know where it is, but I have posted a few miserable replies to various comments. Including this one, oh err

Ah, so he could park his bike outside the cafe without fear of theft?

OK, so I have a whole raft of "Victor Meldrew factor" drafts in my folder.....but if I post them, they will go to the original thread, not this thread....unless there is a quick fix, I'm far too grumpy to re-type them!

...AAAH! ....I remember...."the mouse has eaten it".....then you can spit it out ...like....

..................Colin, if customers are rejecting saddles on the basis that they're not perfect / up to scratch then surely this customer feedback should be passed on to Brooks? .......

We return the saddles to Brooks, they come straight back. Its boring and expensive. What reply did you get to your E mail to Brooks? We always get the reply there is no fault...**
Only CONSUMERS are protected by the sale of goods act, distance selling regulations, etc.
Brooks have done a good job getting the status of a premium product. Unfortunately this brings with it (for some people) an expectation that the product will be a work of art....its still a bike saddle.

**I agree. The surface wrinkles you had are due to the big, thick-stemmed copper rivets, its purely cosmetic, there is no weakness. But what do I know? I have only ridden the things for a lifetime, re-shaped saggy leather tops, replaced broken saddle frames.....picture of the 2 types of rivet on page one, I think.

I'm beginning to enjoy this......

........ I don't see the connection between pianos, snakes, and codebreaking, so I'm guessing its a computer keyboard you're talking about?
As it happens, posting photos on this site is the very pinnacle of my ability with computers, so would you please help me to buy a load of circuit cards, wires, memory banks and things off E bay, plug them all together to make my own computer?

Isn't that what you're trying to do with a bike? My bike cost more than my computer, so logically there's less complexity to a computer so it should be easier to build one?

The comparison is, of course, spurious, just as a comparison of bikes and cars is spurious.

Market forces have ensured cars have been pretty reliable for some time, they are big heavy and expensive, so various gadgets are built in to make them proof against all but the most idiotic of operators. Computers are similar....go back to the early home computers, they were the preserve of people who were actually interested in the things....now I only have one to talk about and buy bits of bikes. Market forces in the bike business drive the price down, the weight down, and the complexity up....more gears, more assorted spangly bits...... no synchromesh, no self adjusting hydraulic tappets, no self-repairing programming.

Grumpy enough? :P
