I have the ideal solution renta dog. My son has a lovely Golden Labrador. I sometimes take him for walks and he occasionally stays the weekend with us, for the rest of the time he is with his family. Just enough dog for me with a bit of fun and none of the expense or inconvenience. I love dogs but not enough to own one.
In 1983 we had a large party of Chinese come to our factory in a licence deals where they licensed our technology to increase the efficiency and responsiveness of every Chinese power station. After the first weekend they arrived at work beaming. "Had a good weekend?" we asked. "Yes we went to supermarket!" they beamed. At that time there was no such thing as a supermarket in China. "You eat a lotta Dog.... and Cat!" They said. We queried this... "Yes, all those tins with Dog and Cat on label" They said. "No, those are meat for our pet Dogs and Cats to eat" we said. They were flabbergasted and just wouldn't believe it at first. Just after the cultural revolution no-one in China kept pets because there simply was not enough food to go round. When we went to China we noticed the total absence of wild birds, they had all been eaten. I can relate many other revelations that this party of Chinese encountered, they left amazed and ashamed that China was then such a backward nation. Recently I was in touch with them again. One power station a week is being commissioned equipped with our products. Although the company that originally conceived them here in England was trashed and dismantled by asset strippers from the city...
