cycling to work topic discussed on jeremy vine

Re: cycling to work topic discussed on jeremy vine
Jeremy asked each of the lucky winners "Is it painful?"
Where did he get that rediculous idea from? That's a myth. A rotten lie spread by motorists to stop people riding bicycles on the road.
Let me ask you Jeremy. Would a 'painful' mode of transport last 125 years and continue to be increasingly popular when there are warm , dry and luxurious motorised carriages available?

Probably because of the Tour de France coverage they always talk about the 'pain' and 'suffering' of the riders. Of course racing up a 1:1 slope is the same as cycling to work...
More cycling related stuff on radio
On Woman's Hour on Radio 4 this morning, the Hairy Bikers (of TV cooking fame and of 18 stone in weight) were asked about their dieting success. They said that the most effective contribution to their successful loss of weight was the two cycles they had been given by a doctor. Jenny Murray suggested that their new moniker might therefore be the "Two Hairy Push-bikers". Touche, I say.

Indeed, they are seen cycling in the Lake District on their series.

the worst part of their day is probably the work itself , not the ride to and from it. that's more than likely the best bit. Lol

It's one of the most saddest of programs, hosted by one of the most nausiating voices on Radio 2.He has all the charisma and insight of a dead frog
A total waste of my licence fee ,all IMO of course.

Maybe so but it's nice to hear positive cycling content in the mainstream media.

I agree, the sooner all the media display a more positive attitude toward cycling and it's overhall benefits the better.I wouldn't count on Jeremy Vine to be at the cutting edge of that movement though

Cycling into town this afternoon - towing the trailer as I had just dropped off some bottles at the bottle bank - some chavwit shouts out 'Get a car it's easier' I didn't bother responding but I did wonder - easier than what? as I locked up the bike outside of the shop I wanted to go to rather than flaff around finding a parking space in the car park a quarter mile away and walking the rest.

That's the stock belief though, that a car is easier, for anything

i agree. it's all good advertising for cycling. the more the better.
i don't really give a stuff about knighthoods but great to see Wiggo get one for the same reason.
it's amazing how that type of thing works in the psyche of people and also interesting the culture we have here against cyclist still. after cycling through France i felt like i was the king of the road. here i feel like i'm the ant.
hopefully we'll see a change in the mentality towards cyclists and i feel that every little thing like this can help , albeit slowly, towards this.

I have to agree totally with that
