East to West

Post by Squeezebox »

Thinking of going from Lowestoft across to St Davids head in Wales.

The most easterly point to something quite westerly (OK thats just because its kind of across!). I am working on the completly silly idea that by going across the country first will be good training for LEJOG later...ie if you can go across one way then you can go across the other way. Of course the terain is completly different but its a good test of me, bike and equipment.

Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts on interesting routes or places to take in etc?

Yep, done that - but W to E from St David's to Lowestoft - great ride - relatively hard in the first Welsh bit with some hills - dead easy from about Ledbury onwards.

Never one to miss an opportunity - have a look at www.cycle-endtoend.org.uk in the Journals/Other UK -there's one called Side to Side .... and in the shop section there's an item - Rob, Steve & Martin's Side to Side - with a route map ready to print and follow.

Do a search on the two town names and you should find plenty of previous stuff about this journey.

As somebody who seems to end his tours with two or three days of struggling into a strong Westerly Wind, I would be looking to do it West to East instead.

The route at this end is quite a simple choice. The "flat" route following the rivers Haverford West-Carmarthen-Llandovery or something much more "scenic" to the North of that.

Thats great !

Thanks Rob. Had quick look at that link and will be having a proper look later when I have a tea break. Good stuff!
Meic....yep agree would preffer it the other way around, but free lift to the start in early May and time off then means its better on the planning stage even if I have to go throught head on winds....but its a point I am pondering, again thanks!
