Daffodils

Post by Mick F »

Just picked the first of the year. :D

I know that daffs growing in warm sunny(?) gardens are generally very early, I've seen loads around and about for weeks now, but ours are growing wild in our dense woodland. Just been up there collecting logs, so picked them for Mrs Mick F to keep in her good books.

This year compares to other years I have records:
2013 - 13th Feb
2012 - 17th Feb
2011 - 26th Feb
2010 - 16th March
2009 - 26th Feb
2008 - 9th Feb
2007 - 10th Feb
2006 - 10th March
2005 - 8th Feb
2004 - 5th Feb
2003 - 23rd Feb
2002 - 16th Feb
2001 - 22nd Feb
2000 - 21st Feb
1999 - 27th Feb
1998 - 24th Feb

I had a primary school teacher who told us she saw two Springs every year when she was training in the SE of England. One before the Easter break and one at the end of it in the NE of England. Mick's photo is proof the old dear was right. :) Good Old Mrs Pickering!

Saw our first wild open ones only last week. Only a couple as most of them are still just about to flower.
( tame ones have been in Morrisons for weeks. :D )
Been a good showing for the Snowdrops and still blooming.

Some of buds developing on the dafs outside now have a dusting of snow. That's going to confuse them.
