Hi everyone,
I am a university student hoping to complete a JOGLE cycle sometime this year in order to convince myself that i have done something noteworthy in my life by the age of 20. My 20th is on the 7th July and i would like to have done JOGLE before or maybe even a month or two after that. Obviously being a student i can not afford the most expensive bike in the world so i was wondering whether any of you could point me in the right direction of a bike for sub-£250 (obviously second hand) that should get me through the journey? I'm not particularly interested in whether its got rocket launchers on it or anything like that, i just want something that is still going to have 2 wheels when i cross the finish line. Any recommendations?
Cheers guys, i look forward to posting again on this forum!

Hi,
I think you should be able wit a bit of cunning manage that. I would be forgetting about road bikes/tourers/cross bikes etc and looking out for a second hand mountain bike without suspension. Fit a set of slicks and give it a service and it should do you proud.
Almost all mountain bikes have a great range of gears, a fairly comfortable ride, and have a strong set of wheels that should still be rolling at the end. Also most if not all will have points to mount a rear rack for carrying all your gear.
you could even get something as cheap as a carrera subway, and I dare say it would do the job well, not the fastest, but stout, quick, good range of gears, good brakes, no thrills - something like:

I'm sure he's joking but just in case don't. It will fall apart after 100 miles.
Second the advice about the mountain bike.
