Hi.
I ride my bike for fitness purposes (& fun).
I was able to ride 3 or 4 times a week and train either distance (20 to 30 miles every time) or hill climbing (steep hills).
Now, due to work schedules I can no longer devote time to train as I used to. I commute to work, 4 times a day, but it is a short commute; 2 miles every trip, with a average hill on the route. (I work 6 days a week).
What is the best way to ride as to make it as much a training trip every time I commute?
I just do not want to loose some of the capacities I have work so hard to get.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Training question
You're not going to get much of a workout in 2 miles. Any chance of extending your ride to or from work? My commute is only 6 miles but I often do an extended ride home, sometimes clocking up 50 for the day.
Another idea is going out at lunchtimes. I can fit a 20 mile ride in an hour and 20 minutes and be showered and back at my desk 10 minutes later.

cross train - run the 2 miles instead of cycling them. Vary your pace and aim to better your time as you progress.
Try gentle runs with 70% efforts, then attempt one day a week a faster pace. You can "Monster" the hill, jog gently up it, or do shuttles of different effort levels up it too.
Your main issue is that the distance isn't great enough to get much Cardiovascular benefit from the bike alone.
