muguards that look cool!

Post by geoffmuskett »

Hi does anyone know if there are any mudguard out there that actually look good on road bikes?!

I recently got a shiney new bike, my new pride and joy, and I don't want to 'geek' it up like I have with my hybrid bike.

I don't mind if they aren't brilliant mudguards...just enough to stop the line of brown going up my back...in this case its style over function! (but they've got to function a bit otherwise theres no point in having them on!)

beauty is in the eye of the beholder - depends by what you mean by "look good"

For me, I think that the bike looking a little more cluttered is preferable to a filthy brown stripe down the back of your shorts and top! Thus, these days the un-guarded "race" bike only comes out when there is minimal chance of rain, on other days I take the tourer or the SS, both with guards.

However I think that the bluemels on the SS actually add to it's retro looks.

Yes my first ever bike had lovely sort of luminous blue Bluemels mudguards, that matched the pump. Toned in well with the frame, also. Certainly better to look at than an eyeful of mud! :-)

Apart from outright racing bikes (even poseurs), all bikes look half dressed without guards (and don't forget the mudflaps too)

Well, these aren't bluemels but it was love at first sight when I spotted them at a cycle jumble sale. And, for only 10 quid too... yea, maybe I got ripped-off. There were these shiny yellow ones too!

A pair of those rather smart Brooks leather mudflaps for instance. :D

I like black 'guards and black 'flaps :) Though the santana's still wearing silver ones and they suit it.

Pssst,(whispering) I've seen some carbon effect ones  But being a steel man I can't,can I? :?

Like the 'guards but the 'flaps are a bit wide for my taste.
I've found that its the length that stops the spray especially on the front.

What are the flaps made out of?

(someone had to ask).

I've heard of people using (is it?) motorbike inner tubes?

I've just fitted a pair of those on the 1/2 built 953 :D They do look nice but you need to dig a reflector & possibly mudflaps out of the scrap bin. I've done the former but not the flaps - yet!

Seconded, bikes that are designed to have guards look unfinished if they are not fitted, IMO if fitted well they can actually enhance the appearance
