Second hand prices
Second hand prices
I haven't got any hard evidence, but it's my impression that the second hand price of a recumbent is gradually falling, year on year. If true, I guess it's not surprising with there being more 'bents on the market. But, on the other hand, demand must have increased as their popularity has gone up. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Better still, does anyone have direct experience/evidence?
Re: Second hand prices
The bent on this thread fetched £675 which is a good price for a bike no longer in production, but I think that there is more depreciation on high value later model bikes.
Being of a N+1 persuasion myself depreciation isn't something that affect my bikes because I don't sell them. I have had one upright stolen and I gave one away to a worthy cause so I now have to struggle by with 5 bikes.
(The worthy cause was a work colleague who is still using the bike and is now a regular cyclist

Re: Second hand prices
My perception is that people are not getting what they are asking, and are having to drop prices by large amounts to sell. That might change a little with the coming of spring but I think the recession is playing a large part. I think bikes sell very readily at around £700 but stick at £1400 say.
Re: Second hand prices
I just got an ebay bent trike (a KMX & it is bent but only a little bit....) for £385. The running gear all looks pretty much brand new.
I think it's about half price, which is fair enough for 2nd hand in my book.
'Fraid I'm immediately going to set to it with a hacksaw & MIG . . . . ;^) I'm increasing wheel diameters, lowering the chassis, replacing the pedals with a treadle system and (oh the horror) augmenting my paltry power output with electricity. Should be fun.
With the treadle system I'm hoping to be able to fabricate an effective 3/4 fairing that's low & long.

Re: Second hand prices
starting to see more older stuff about. I think my PDQ was well under £300 a few years back.
