Replacement sleeping bag stuff sac

Post by sirmy »

I looked at the stuff sac for my sleeping bag toady and found that the snag that appeared in the fabric last year is now a hole with a little hernia of sleeping bag sticking out. So I'm in the market for a replacement but I'm a bit stumped as to which to buy.

I've decided to go for a waterproof bag which would allow me to carry the bag on the top of the rack if needed and obviously I'm drawn towards an Ortleib, the PS 10 compression sac with a valve to allow trapped air out. Has any one used one of these as a stuff sac for a sleeping bag? Would moisture retention be a problem or should I go for something like an Exped sac or a Pod airstream compression sac.

Any help would be useful as I'll be needing it in about four months and there's no way I can decide this on such a limited time frame on my own :?

Hi,
From previous experience in sleeping bags, when its compressed a sleeping bag is not going to dry out that much.
Airing the bag after use is the only sure way of reducing moisture retention for next use.
Just repair the existing sac :?:
But always double waterproof your sleeping bag to be sure.

Probably belongs in the camping section of expeditions.................

Alpkit do a nice range of dry bags for a reasonable price - www.alpkit.com

I use an airlok for my sleeping bags.

I have a Sea to Summit Event compression bag. No valves; the air is forced out through the fabric. Waterproof. I could weigh it if the weight is not on their website. Works well.

I hadn't come across Alpkit before but I've book marked the site so I'll have a look. I was giving serious consideration to something like the Sea to Summit so might have another look there, it appears that similar bags are available under a variety of names

Unfortunately the sac that was supplied with the bag was only just big enough to take the bag, the compression straps seem to act more to hold the bag in than compress it so it stitching is probably no use
