Me, being the tight git that Iam, have a pair of MO20 Shimano touring shoes, although I have had them for a number of years they are still in good condition and very comfortable. The problem is the soles are wearing to the "slide across a tiled tearoom floor on yer cleats" stage, which can be quite entertaining for the gathered masses and although exciting for the wearer can have certain orthopedic consequences

.
So I was wondering if anyone else who has had this problem has had new soles fitted or indeed fitted them yourself and if so how successful was it. I'm not fond of soles of the flapping variety

,also neatness does play a part too

.
Are there any other "economists" out there

.
PS I been to one shoe repairer and was told they couldn't do it,so cobblers to them.

I too have a pair of M020's which have worn down level or slightly below the cleat. I've been thinking of letting Simon lose with some pieces of rubber to raise the sides a bit just to eek a little more life out of them as the uppers are still fine and I'm tight.
Not sure exactly how we'll go about it yet. I think that with a suitable adhesive it shouldn't be too hard.

Could you use the old stick on soles that you used to be able to get from Woolworths and the like, and cut a slot out for the cleat?
Personally, I'd just buy another pair of shoes. There are bargains to be had if you hunt around.

Yes there are but its the waste that bothers me,I have good pair shoes with a little wear on the soles but by no means worn out,to see them go to landfill is "bad" waste to my mind.
PS I will check out Woolworths though, thanks.
PPS I can see myself wearing out another pair of shoes traipsing around all the various cobblers(are they still called that?)

Dunno about SPD's but I've been ekeing out the life of trainers by glueing rubber on using Evo Stik. Whether it sticks depends on the type of rubber, but I used to salvage some off another pair of trainers that were more worn. You need to make sure the surfaces are roughened and levelled with a sanding disc before glueing.
I use Stead and Simpson's Hobos for cycling in, but they've changed the design and the new ones hurt, so I had the old ones resoled. They were still good as new apart from one hole under the left big toe where I put my foot down. A bloke in a LBS once told me that 'ordinary' shoes only last two weeks, but I've had mine years, and done thousands of miles in them!

You could try someone like
www.feetfirst.resoles.co.uk who resole walking boots, approach shoes, mtb shoes and the like.
