How to dissasmble a Shimano R400 brake lever?

As above. Anybody know how to please? I need to remove the lever from the left brake, leaving the body and hood so it can still be used as a handhold and for gripping. Thanks!

I havent got one to hand but looking at the tech docs it looks similar to an sti lever. Underneath the lever in the body you'll see a tiny grub screw holding the pivot pin in place. Undo and tap the pivot pin out.

if the grub screw won't come undone (quite likely...), brute force will pry the lever apart (make it wider) and leave you with the part you want. It'll likely never be a good brake lever again though.

I'd suggest that you use a really good quality 2mm allen key on the grub screw BTW.

cheers

Thanks both. I'll check it out later. It will never be used as a brake again.

Cane Creek & Dia Compe dummy levers are available from SJSC and no doubt elsewhere but at £25+

Thanks, but the left one I have as spare and matches the right which I do use. But if I take off the current Mungo bars and replace with drops, then the body of the brake on the bend of the drop aids as a handhold when climbing.
