Hi all

I have a set of Avid juicy 3 disc brakes on my bike which need bleeding and I have a few questions :

I am not exactly sure what oil is in the system….I have some Shimano oil (pink) and wondered if it the same as DOT 5.1 which I often see with reference to Avid Brakes. Is it the same or do I need to use the exact oil in the system.

Can anyone recommend a Bleed kit which will do the job

Finally is it easy to do….?

Many thanks for your help and time

Regards

Mike

shimano oil is not Dot 5.1, or it would say so on the tin....

If your system uses Dot 5.1, that is what you need to use.

Bleeding isn't difficult; there are several online tutorials.

cheers

Yes, don't mix brake oil! You can buy avid specific kits with oil on ebay for £10-15. The one I bought had decent instructions. I am a cack handed dunderhead with most repair jobs, but managed this one easily enough... It is a bit laborious removing the bubbles but once you get the hang of it it's fine.

Good luck, Ant
