Nothing?

Sounds like you've been treated remarkably well by the world, in that case!

You know what I mean Mr Pedantic.
Hard times? I and many others could write a book. How about being a cancer survivor for a start?
Go pick on somebody else.

Well if the OP hasn't had any hard times then isn't it true? So how can the second poster above be pedantic?
A rather harsh reply to a simple comment.

That's what finally put me off camping - never again!

Well we should have been camping on that evening, we were in the Bolzano area of Italy on a bit of a busier road as the rain set in... ex was behind but I could sense he was looking at every patch of grass just off the road as a potential camp spot... too busy to ride 2 a breast and discuss but I had suddenly decided I was NOT camping that night if I could help it and next village with a B&B I was turning straight into the guest house... sadly cos it was supposedly summer in Italy there was no heating on so no where to dry clothes,

I'm confused by that.
But if it's aimed at me it is IMO not a harsh reply. The posters exclamation mark makes the difference.
I don't wish to be judged by somebody who does not know me or my life. I was making a lightheartened comment about my reasons for sometimes not camping. It did not merit somebody making a such a personal post.
To take apart or nitpick at somebodys post in order to attempt to denigrate them, makes one wonder why one bothers to post in the first place.

You got a summer, last year? You were lucky!

Thank you Starfire! This thread has been helpful (as I'm convinced it'll be mainly cold, wet & windy, none of which I enjoy!) so I've now got some alternative transport plans... bus, ferry, hijack a car  etc etc

In Scotland I make my camping agenda flexible. If I have a rainy cycling day then I'll look for a B&B rather than a campsite. Not having to pitch a tent in the rain, and having a dry night in a warm bed makes a world of difference.

I've recently converted from DF to recumbent and I'm curious to see what difference this makes to foot comfort when touring in rainy weather. It's almost impossible to keep your feet dry on a DF in persistent rain because no matter how good the shoes are, the rain will always find a route in through the legs. This isn't a problem with a recumbent, and I haven't had any problems with wet feet so far. As a bonus the bent resolves some of the wind problem too.

Deary me, I wasn't getting at you or the struggles of your life, I was getting at (in what I'd hoped was a light-hearted way) the hackneyed phrase "there's nothing worse than (insert something certainly unpleasant but not really that bad)..." because it's a rather silly cliche.

That's all. Sorry if it offended.

Pete.

so are you referring to Mr Pedantic as the weather or the poster? I assumed the latter but if the former please accept my apologies as it was not entirely clear what you meant.
