Can you be sure it was not one of the earlier penetrating oils which finally got to where it was needed, rather than the last product used which resulted in success?

acetone-and-oil mixes do work pretty well but it is as well to remember that acetone can attack paints.

And so can brake fluid - even more so than acetone.
