Geriatrix is spot on with his Selby train crash anaolgy and this just emphasises the difficulties faced by any legal system. Personally I feel the consequences of that train crash unduly influenced the outcome for the guilty party and by the same token the relatively benign outcome of this case will likely affect any "judgement".

FWIW I think this is more stupidity than hatred, hence her tweet for recognition (or approval?) but it is a stupidity which society perhaps needs to address....

I'm minded to paraphrase a famous long-ago quote from one of the tabloids (wrongly attributed to a Mr Callaghan):
"War? What war?"
I simply don't believe in the existence of a 'war'. 'Incidents' - yes. Collisions - regrettably, yes. Road Rage - also regrettably, yes. Poor driving - and cycling - examples - yes. But I like to regard these as minority experiences. For me at any rate, at least 90% of all rides pass by without anything to report. The trouble is, a ride with no incidents is unremarkable and hence non-memorable...

I'll take cover now - I guess others will dispute the above!

There is clearly no war between drivers and cyclists when I am driving.

However too many motorists feel the need to try and intimidate anybody who is holding them up, be it in a great heavy estate car or on a vulnerable cycle with child in tow.

Whether it is stupidity, hatred, or both doesn't really matter. What does matter is that it is socially acceptable, even amongst a minority of motorists. If the young woman had stuck a disabled person, she would have been aware that she had done something wrong, not tweeted about it.

*that* is the war :(

Very nicely put, if I may say so.

She tweeted that because she believed she was expressing a consensus view.

What is worrying is that she probably believed it was the consensus view because it is so within her social circle.

Which is very worrying indeed.
As I've said so many times on here, there is a serious social problem in UK society. The attitude and actions expressed by the woman in question is at the heart of it  .

Whilst I'd agree that there is a social problem here, I think that its a case that there has always been a social problem. Young adults have always (ok as far as I can remember, which isn't actually that long...) been arrogant self centred little brats, who associate with a like minded group of other young adults and create the peer pressure positive feed back loop which just makes them and their friends more so when in groups.

What has changed in the last decade is how readily apparent this is, and its more to do with social media and the changing attitude between private and public communications than a change in youths themselves.

The girl has apologised http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/update/2013-05-22/im-sorry-says-cycle-tweet-girl/

I hope the police are still holding her to account for her driving offence and leaving the scene of an accident.

I just watched that. IMO she still doesn't get it. What that girl is sorry about is the flak she's getting and the fact that she may be out of a job. That's all.

All she's bothered about is herself.

Whilst I do agree about the outlet to a larger peer group.People at least knew when they were doing wrong and accepted the admonishment of their elders not to mention the law.
They now to feel justified in their actions,as if the law means nothing, but due to the woefully inadequate penalties and punishments dished out, even if they're caught that's little surprise.

Did they edit out any sign of regret about her dangerous driving just to make her look bad ?

Unbelieveable.

In the video she's looks as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth as she apologies, you note how her only concern is for herself and how her actions have impacted on her,not a mention of her victim and make no mistake of seriousness of her actions, but for chance she could have seriously injured or killed the cyclist who she hit.
I hope she get sacked from her job forthwith and I hope she's prosecuted for dangerous driving.

You are seeing a potential killer with a serious attitude problem in that video.
