Hatred, stupidity or both?

A
disturbing case unfolding.
On one level it illustrates a really stupid use of social media, but it has a very dark side if it pans out to be true (and since a possible victim has been identified so it could be). Can one type of road user have such a self righteous sense of entitlement that they can damage another and then boast about it with arrogant scorn for the victim?
Well it looks like the police are taking this seriously. They have located her and are waiting for the victim to come forward.

Youth and inexperience would be my bet.

I think you are right, and I think assisted by some very misguided mentoring somewhere along the line. The seed of that attitude was probably sown by someone she looked up to.
Part of me is angry because I have been subject to that sort of arrogance but my daughter is the same age so another part feels sad about the whole thing.

Sufficient to lose a licence for many years.

If this is genuine it shows that there is a small minority of morons who should never be allowed on the roads again. Unfortunately such people will carry on regardless of any ban

I read elsewhere that this attitude is particularly prevalent amongst new drivers. I guess a sense of entitlement prevails.
My guess is she wasn't boasting so much as looking for validation of her actions of hit and run. Perhaps expecting lots of "yeah, good on ya" type responses. Instead she's getting what she deserves.
If it is shown to be true. Then she's not fit to be on the roads or in the short term part of society at all.
IMO a 10 year driving ban and a short custodial sentance is called for. Irrelevant of the circumstances of the accident; just for hit and run itself.

It is to be hoped that this is mere braggadocio, and that there was no actual hit and run; hopefully there is no cyclist left injured, or with damaged property, as a consequence of this creature's actions. Such things are not unknown.
But this is serious enough to warrant police investigation, and rightly so! And consider. If I were to boast, as I go through airport security, "there's a bomb in that bag", you can be damn sure I'd be turned inside out by the security guys, no doubt followed up by an appearance in Court and possible jail sentence. There are some stupid things that you just don't do, if you have a scrap of civilised upbringing about you.
That means that I really hope this - idiot - gets brought to justice for whatever reason, even if it's only for wasting police time.
And about time Twitter and the like were more open about providing information to help nail these morons.
If there is an injured cyclist, on the other hand, hopefully he or she will come forward.

Unfortunately it appears to be true. If you check the RoadCC article (
http://road.cc/content/news/84212-norwich-police-seek-driver-who-tweeted-about-collision-cyclist) on same, the cyclist is identified and gives their description of the incident, and the "lady's" employee also registered and made an apology! I think she may be in some trouble...
Cyclist was unhurt, in what appears a miraculous situation.

Seems that my guess, about it being a hoax, was wrong. Just as well the cyclist seems to be OK - now let's wait for the proverbial 'book to be thrown'...

From ipayroadtax
Ms Way was quickly identified from her Facebook page and the police were sent other examples of her poor driving: she had taken taking photographs of herself tailgating other motorists, and even photographed her speedometer showing a speed of 95mph.
Is this just one bad egg or is it a social trend in young drivers?

Well I don't think that it is enough evidence to declare a pattern but the most aggressive behaviour towards me when cycling has been from younger female drivers.

I have twice been in the situation of cycling normally on my side of the road when a driver coming the opposite way pulled out to get past parked cars and blocked my progress. In the ensuing conversation, they made it quite clear that they expected me to get out of their way.
They were both young women, at school leaving time. (I live beside a school, and almost all the drivers are women, so there may be observational bias.)
