Yes, I can recommend Newton Mill I've stayed there numerous times, cycle camping, as it's quite handy for my first stop to get to the West Country. It has all facilities and a good club house where you can buy meals and drinks!

We first stayed here many years ago, and the road route involves a big hill
There was talk of a footpath at the back of the site to the Rugby club and then onto the A36 and the Bristol bath cycle rack. I don't know if it was completed, but if it is it would avoid some distance and climbing.

Yes, I've used it quite a few times now - it doesn't so much avoid distance (of course it would you were travelling north!), but avoids that 17% hill, which comes too early in the day when the bike is packed with camping-touring gear. I think it's also the path you would use to walk into town.

Thanks guys, I was looking at Newton Mill but there's nothing like first hand knowledge, Newton Mill it is.

I will be on my way back from Somerset and East Devon - the main reason for Bath is (a) to take a look at Airnimal bikes at Avon Valley Cyclery - time for a folder and (b) to ride the recently opened Two Tunnels cycle route, which I am inspired to try following reports on this Forum recently, looks good.

The campsite is less than 2 miles from AVC via Twerton then another short ride onto the Two Tunnels route either flat along to Inverness Rod or up the A36 to Bear Flat/Bloomfield Road. Personally I'd do the flat route.
