New Touring Bike Advice Please

Post by ChrisL »

Hi All,

After a long break, I want to get back into cycling.
I am intending on taking 2 months off and cycling to Naples in 18 months time. So I need a bike that will cope with a tour like that, taking camping gear etc. However, most of it's use before that will be around home getting fit (hilly derbyshire), and the occasional weekend or few days jaunt.

My previous bike was a Super Galaxy, so have been looking at new Super/Ultra Galaxies. However I have also been considering the Dawes Audax and Cannondale Touring Lightweight.

Obviously I need good touring capabilities, but nothing too heavy for the rest of the time. I would be grateful for any comments about the above choices, or any other suggestions.

Thanks

Have you looked at Thorn's range of touring bikes ie Sherpa or Club Tour models. Google SJS cycles

Chris if I was you I'd look close to home and visit Mercian at Alveston. King of Mercian tourer or the Audax would suit very well and they'd no doubt be able to advice which is is best for your intended use.
As well as the undoubted quality you'd end up with a bike of great beauty.
