Here in Belfast a cyclist was killed a year or so ago because she stopped at a red light and the lorry driver behind her wasn't expecting her to (he thought she was going to go straight through it) and he ended up running her over.

That just sounds like a desperate excuse and a case of victim blaming. Surely if the lorry driver was going to stop at the red then all he'd have done would be to shunt her forward a bit, not run her over, because he would only have been a bike length away from the stop line( at which he was stopping) when he first hit her? Thus would it not be the case that the real reason that he killed her was purely that he was running the red light?

Not been cycling long but so far most other cyclists seem really ignorant, I say hi with a nod of the head and get nothing back. Am sure it's because I don't wear a helmet, sunglasses, shorts and a cycling top.

Also wish the fast cyclists coming up behind me to overtake would get a bell or at least let me know they are approaching, they just sneak up and make me jump half the time.

I think this is just people in general and the times we live in. When walking/riding away from the road at a leisurely pace I always make an effort to say hello to people I pass. I'd say 60/70% reply. Not everyone wants to be sociable

Then they'll dither about, requiring an overtake until the next set of lights, when the cycle (bad pun) is repeated.

Ah, yes. This really annoys me, and it happens all the time. Here in London, it's quite often people on Boris bikes who'll do it. Girls are particularly prone to this behaviour, I find.

I want to ask them, 'Since you're slower than almost everyone else here, why do you go to the front of the queue at the lights, thus obliging 15 people to pass you?'

But I daresay that the response would be a middle finger, or an 'eff off'. Or both.

Another thing that annoys me is the number of cyclists who pass me on the left, often inches from my bike.

Grrrr ...

Imagine what it would be like if everyone cycled .....

Yup, the government would slap a tax on it.
