P*nct*re repair kits

Does anyone know why some puncture repair kits come with a couple of tiny latex tubes? What am I meant to do with them?!

IIRC these are a throw back to the old ' woods' type valves, that you unscrew and pull out, but I may be wrong.

I think that is right, they are woods valves seals. Most woods valve inserts don't use these any more, and the last time I tried using one, some not-terribly-vigorous pumping caused it to fail instantly.
They can be used as cable inner trims; they might prevent fraying for at least five minutes....
