Garmin handlebar mount
Hi, can anyone advise on the best (roadbike) bar mount for a new etrex 20? It is hard to tell from eg amazon 'reviews' which actually work. There are conflicting reports on compatibility and also which ones are actually secure.
I trust a CTC member. Cheers, Garry

Assuming you mean this model Etrex 20, I have this mount. It's perfectly secure when fixed to the flat top section of a quill stem. I'm not sure I'd trust it as a handlebar mount; it's only held on with zipties and I think it might rotate all over the place on a rough surface. But the unit clips into the mount very firmly and I've never had it jolt loose.
The mount you definitely don't want is this, which Evans and possibly other retailers will tell you is the correct one for a new Etrex 20. It isn't. I've tried it.
There is a company that makes very sturdy-looking (but pricier) third-party mounts, including ones for motorbikes, but I can't find the link right now. I'll have a rummage around.

Found it! But you have to buy that holder and a separate base kit for attaching it to the bike, so it's not cheap.

EDIT: or the ebay one aboveVanDeRooster wrote:http://www.wiggle.co.uk/garmin-oregon-and-colorado-gps-bike-mount/
This is all you need (assuming it fits the Etrex 20, I believe it does).
I've used it for a few years with my Oregon and it is totally secure, so much so that i've taken off the lanyard, which was definitely needed for the old style Legend mount; though Garmins do bounce well.
A single layer of PTFE tape underneath stops it rotating, and the zip ties make it easy to transfer between bikes as needed.
The weekend comes, my cycle hums
Re: Garmin handlebar mount
I use the zip tied sort and occasionally it does rotate but it's developed a rattle which is on the spring bit to get it off. I am not worried about it bouncing out....it's such a pig to clip out!

+1 to Vanderrooster and JamesE's suggsestion for the mount (wish I'd seen that ebay supplier before I had to buy 2!).
I have it on the handlebar of 2 bikes - no danger of the Etrex coming off.
As stated above it can rotate a little but this can be sorted.

I use the RAM Mounts cradle (see JamesE's link). It's not exactly low profile, but very secure and very durable. It you buy the basic handlebar mount it's not expensive - especially compared to the price of a damaged or lost GPS.
Re: Garmin handlebar mount
+1 for RAM mounts cradle as above, very good indeed.
