Need a multiply-adjustable seatpost

Post by Audax67 »

Looking for a seatpost that is independently adjustable for:

    * fore & aft movement
    * front-to-back tilt
    * lateral tilt
All [moderately decent, physically feasible] suggestions gratefully received.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Well, the first two are doable, but lateral tilt? I've never seen a post offering that. I'd have thought the only solution there is to manipulate the saddle rail(s).

By lateral tilt, I assume you mean sideways tilt. If so, I guess adding a thin spacer under 1 rail and over the other saddle rail (to keep the top clamp level, assuming a micro adjust seat post). How you do this while ensuring the saddle rails don't slip out sideways I don't know. Possbbly a plate between the 2 rails, kept in the centre by location on the seat clamp bolt. Won't be a 5 min job I'm sure.
Manipulating (bending) rails might work, but a decent saddle might have hard - to - bend - in - a - controlled - manner rails.
If you use traditional plain seat pillar/clamp, then a (sturdy) pipe bender could be employed to give the post a sideways bend, though I would only recommend this for a steel seat post.
Would a chryropractor be easier?!

No bonetwisters until we've found out what's up with my underpinnings. Might end up with something as simple as orthotics, might be a herniated disc. Ho ho ho. First X-ray session Monday.

The idea of shimming for lateral effect is nice, but in practice it's likely to be prohibitively fiddly. With independent fore & aft rail-clamps and a laced saddle such as I have now it'd be horrible.

I don't think theres a need to keep the top bit of the clamp level.
I have shimmed a single-bolt seatpost with unhelpful ratchet things using a piece of shim cut the right shape and secured to the (single) bolt, so my bit of shim went under the back of both rails. You could surely fit a bit of shim under one rail for its full length, secured to 2 bolts?
Depends how much tilt you want....
