What model Claude Butler?
I am the proud owner of a Claude Butler road bike which I bought secondhand about 25years ago. It was a metallic bronze colour, had Wiemann centre-pull brakes, 531 tubing but no model name. I have emailed Claude Butler but no reply. I'd be interested in any advice on how to get more info on the bike before I hand it on to my son.

Post a photo?

Sounds like a Dalesman. There's no "e" in Claud by the way.

My 2p would be for it being a Claud Butler Majestic - my wife has the metallic gold-ish bronze Majestique (the mixte version) and a neighbour has the same colur in a man's frame - both are around the time you suggest - my own Majestic started out in metallic blue but is now yellow (one of the classic CB colours from the 1950s and 60s (although it's a 1982 model)

Thanks for the speedy replies and the link
I think you are right, it is a Dalesman. It came with and still has the rear rack as per the ad. The CB catalogue for '85 http://www.nkilgariff.com/CBcats/Cat_85/CB1985_Cat.htm states a seat pin diameter of 27.2 but the diameter of my seat tube is 26.4 so I think it is probably an '82 model (the year they came out) In truth I think I must have bought it in '85 from a guy who had it from new, used it to tour in Italy for a month and then sold it to me for £120 (something like that).
I used the bike throughout my time as a student and then commuting in Bristol for twenty something years. In '95 I gave it a major upgrade with a new paint job, brazed lugs for the down tube gear shifters and a Shimano groupset all done by Argos Racing Cycles in Bristol. It's on its third set of forks, these from a Dawes - £15 ebay. Now we are waiting for my boy to grow a bit before we give it a much needed service and it returns to the road hopefully to provide many more years of thoroughly enjoyable cycling.
