Can saddles be recovered
Like this one. Forget Gel, forget ergonomic, forget leather. Forget all those fancy shapes. This is the only saddle I'd call comfortable. Sponge, plastic and springs. It's heaven to sit on. Trouble is as you can see it's past it's best (well nearly). All it needs is recovering with plastic. Is such a thing possible and would anyone know where?

Re: Can saddles be recovered
Buy some plastic off ebay and do it yourself, think carefully about every step and you will have a good saddle and the experience of doing it yourself. If it was me though i'd use thin leather.

Thanks that might be worth a try. I like the shiny plastic because it slides against your legwear rather than your legwear sliding against your leg.

After reading a thread on LFG forum linked to from here,I saw a leather suite dumped by the side of the road some two years back,I found the blue lather to be a nice match for my Thorn Audax mk3 so with my trusty penknife I cut two squares out of the sides big enough to recover two saddles if needs be,I've not used it yet but one day soon when I have a brain storm
Train of thought is if you know an upholsterers they may have what you want..........

I don't know what working with plastic is like but leather can be soaked in water and shaped. But it's down to research either way.

Re: Can saddles be recovered
why not cover it in leather. I had a Charge spoon, but a plastic one, and things get a bit sweaty the plastic gets a bit sticky. So I cut up an old leather cushion, and used some carpet adhesive spray. 2 years later its still as good, and its nice and cool, and not sticky even when hot. Shame about the color tho! Not as bad as the pic tho.

That's seriously impressive. But what was the underneath of the saddle made of? Mine is like hard Kapok. How would that react with glue.

Leather polishes up quite nicely in normal use. The slipperiness is one of the things some people complain about in Brooks saddles.

Re: Can saddles be recovered

Q. Can this be 'recovered'?
A. It looks like it might have been already.... from a skip....
(sorry, I couldn't resist it....
BTW I say go for it with leather. If you use the right adhesive ( a one-part moisture-curing polyurethane for example) you may be able to bond wet leather to the saddle directly. Also I once bought a cheap leather overcoat at a boot sale for 50p, in order to cut it up and use the leather for various things.
cheers

Ahem.. skip the rudeness. That's the world's best saddle.
Not sure about the slidyness of leather. Especially in the wet.

I wish I was someone who could be comfortable on a slidey foam-filled saddle.
