Which sleeping bag? £50 max

My current sleeping bag is hefty and for use in warm summers (originally bought for 4 weeks in south east Asia)

I'd rather not spend more than 50 pounds, but I'm after a decent sleeping bag that will last me through autumn and possibly into early winter, though not sub freezing temperatures as I won't be camping!

I guess the most important thing is that it packs down as small as possible for the price, and temperature wise I guess around 5-8 would be min night temperature id bother camping at, but really this is for use September-November, before any real chance of serious frost and ice.

Any suggestions from experienced campers?

Snugpak jungle bag is a bargain at 40quid packs nice and small and has a nice square foot so you can move... Also has a built in mosquito net.. Useful for bivvy ing

This is thinking out loud, but a Tesco down bag? or a Blacks bag?

Are they any good? Not got a blacks local but will pay a visit to tesco this week. Not seen their range.

The jungle bag looks impressive for the price.

If you can find a sale, the Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35 is a great purchase. Mine gets used from March to November, and it packs down small enough to go in a drybag on my handlebars.

I got a Vango Venom, goose down bag from Go Outdoors for less than £50. (I think it was the 200 but can't recall)

I think it's a good bag for the money and packs down fairly small

EDIT- I'm an occasional camper, not a serious one

I had the Vango venom 200, which is rated down to 5c but I found it too cold even at 9 or 10c.

I had same experience as patpalloon, sorry to say. The Venom 200 packs v small, is pretty light, but really for summer in warm climes in small tent, for me at least.

I got my money back for the Venom 200 and went to an independent outdoor shop. They really knew their stuff. There were some lovely down bags by Rab and Montane but in the end went for the Venom 300 which is a bit warmer than the 200 and slightly heavier but is still pretty compact. He explained the ratings on the Vango bags are a bit out of date and to add about 5 degrees on. Ie the venom 200 is 5 to 25 but really is 10 degrees plus. The 300 says 0 to 20 so realistically should be ok down to 5.
