http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0224 ... UTF8&psc=1On the road bike.
The search for a nation's cycling soul.
By Ned Boulting that cycling commentator guy off the telly.
Just finished it, jolly good read and laugh out loud funny in parts.

Tim Moore's written another cycling book 'Gironimo'. This time he's riding a home-made vintage bike along the route of an early Giro d'Italia. As funny as the first book.
Another great cycle touring book (not really as it's about a round-the-world motorcycle ride, but the mentality is the same and I think it deserves an honorary mention) is 'Jupiter's Travels' by Ted Simon.

Enjoyed it so I suppose I should buy the rest.
Me too.
However, Tom waves goodbye to his girlfriend of 6 years, Laura, at her house. Then he goes for a pub-lunch with his Mum, Dad, Nan, Uncle and Cousin. He rides off to Dover, on the way staying a night with his other Nan, popped into another Aunt and Uncle's for lunch, then out for a big night with six Uni mates and then celebrated Uncle Dave's birthday with a huge Sunday roast; all of this fun and jollity without Laura.
This is no comment on Tom's current status: just that had I tried that, the current Mrs P wouldn't be the current Mrs P and my guts would now be the proverbial garters!
Well done, Tom - I am, of course, green with envy.

Cheers and thanks again,

Hi,
Laura and I are now married and the now Mrs B has forgiven me for abandoning her for 9 months. Actually she's let me do a couple of other trips - you can read about them on my website (
www.tombrucecycling.com) but I think my days of many month long bike tours are now in the past. Not sure which edition you read of every inch... but the newest does have a bit more about Laura and says that we are now married.
I'm going to be publishing a photo book about my recent trip to the Indian Himalayas soon so keep a look out if you're interested.
Cheers,
Tom

Just finished reading "Long Road, Hard Lessons" by Mark and Sam Swain. a father and son decide to ride from Ireland to Japan via Europe to Turkey and Iran, then flying to India and riding the length of the country then on to SE Asia and eventually to Japan. An excellent read.

I read the free sample bit.
Although she is clearly a very impressive character i must say that i found the ultra focussed approach to the narrative/achievements a bit wearing- I fear that racing cycling memoirs aren't my thing. I understand that later in the book she gives some folk in british cycling a good roasting. That may well be worth paying for.

In Search of Wales by H V Morton
He whines on a bit too much about history, but the description of the Eisteddfod is very good, he doesnae understand much but enjoys it a lot
Easy to read, an agreeable (unnamed) type face
Just looked out 'In Search of England' and 'In Search of Scotland' to read next

Lambada Country by Giles Whitell.
A cycle in newly opened up Eastern Europe. A lovely engaging read.
