No I didn't write that - but I assume the author wrote it tongue in cheek - the longest I've serial wild camped is 8 days -to say i smelled despite my best efforts of blanket baths was an understatement - with another 13 days to go on the 9th morning I cycled for nearly an hour and a half and low and behold an open campsite came into view - even at half eight in morning it was a no brainer - day off - shower and laundry - absolute bliss :D

After just returning from a 1100 mile tour of France I have to say compared to England France is easy and a no brainer when it comes to wild camping. France is 2.5 percent larger and maybe i'm crazy but except for Provence and the large cities I often wondered...where the hell the people were? I always found plenty of wilderness and forests etc...I would cycle through cities the population of Cambridge and I felt as though I was in the "The Walking Dead". The other thing is especially in the south generally people love cycle tourists. How many times have I been cheered on by a passing car? I think very few people would car if plop a tent on a hidden corner of their property.

France is quite a bit more than 2.5% bigger - its population density is 116 per square kilometre, compared to 407 per square km for England (or 255 per square km for the whole of the UK).

So it's normal if the countryside seems a little quiet!
