I've been getting on with the Brooks experiment and I thought I'd share an update.
I was getting sick of it in it's old position and tilted it forwards quite alot, which did seem to help. The before and after schematics are shown below, along with what it actually looks like now.
While all the junk behind does nothing for the scene, the row of hooks is pretty level to the ground for angle.
In this new position I get less leg pain, but a little perineum pressure and I have to consciously sit about 1/2 and inch further forward than I naturally would. If I let myself go backwards, I get pressure on my buttocks which causes my legs to hurt (especially the troublesome right side), but the perineum pressure is reduced.
andrewjoseph, I have been measuring from the stem top cap to roughly where I think my bottom will be. Not to the nose, can't imagine it's perfect, but better than nothing.
CREPELLO, your shorts observation is interesting as more padded shorts, while seeming more comfortable initially, quickly bring on buttock the pain I mentioned above.
Brooks Swift saddle - leg pain

I am unable to control how far back I sit......and its changing..Having got to the end of (sensible) saddle layback, and still found myself sitting on the cantle plate, I tried 20mm longer stems in an attempt to drag myself forward.....the result was my hands moved back on the bars, and my bum stayed resolutely on the cantle plate............................
Horizon's thread on top tube length reminded me of this thread, so its time for an update.
My discomfort came from sitting on the "corners" of the cantle plate....I was fine on a Spa "Wharfe", where the cantle plate viewed from behind is more rounded, so the "corners" are lower. Pushing the B17N saddles further back simply meant I sat further back on the bike, but in the same place on the saddle......longer stems were similarly useless. So if I can't use the saddle, it doesn't matter if I break it, right?
I drilled out the rivets and took the leather off, put the cantle plate in the vice and bent the corners down a bit, and re-fitted the leather top using M6 csk. machine screws ...my riveting is hopeless. So far, so good, my saddles are back where they always used to be, I'm back on the old stems, and my backside thanks me for it!
