Best time to buy camping gear

Guys have been looking at camping gear and watching the bargains.I recently purchased 2 ascent 500 Rab bags for £144 each everywhere else £200

I am looking at the Vango Spirit 300 + tent RRp £350 sale price by google £260
also the thermarest Neo-air xlite mats RRp £120 or price match can get them for £80 each

was wondering if to buy is this as good as it gets or do the prices go lower over the winter months.Would hate to buy now and find they have dropped 20% a month later.Any advice to purchasing the correct time greatly appreciated.Or links to lower priced kit appreciate even more

thats a good price on the matt, is it the regular size? Tents can come down when new models come on the market otherwise I wouldnt expect anything other than marginal differences over winter.

Thats some high end kit, going somewhere very cold i take it?

Yes regular size saw them on google at regular size then price match to go outdoor getting the 10% reduction

Not that I'm very experienced at tent-buying, but I would say now is the time to buy, certainly for tents. We recently bought a Decathlon Quickhiker III, RRP £199 for £89. It was the ex-display model but we got them to put it up in the shop before we bought it, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. They are selling them off for £149 anyway.

Wait too long and there might be no stock left.

Thought I would update resently looked at 3 tents 2 at blacks 1 at go outdoor.Blacks doing the MSR Murtha Hubba reduced from £380 to £250 and the Northface big fat frog from £270 to £135 but ended up with the lightwave G30 Trek from go outdoors From £350 to £207.Hope this was a good choice weights about 6 Lbs ts for the wife and myself,went 3 man for the extra room

I always find great camping bargains the day after August bank holiday. Particularly in local camping shops and independents

This year we picked up a Vango tent, 6 man, for £129. The day before it was selling for nearer £400

Same with sleeping bags. Two vango wilderness bags for a tenner each.

Only thing I'll say is ultra lightweight gear more suited to cycling seems to hold its value much better than the family camping sort of stuff.

I the past I have on several occasions purchased 'obsolete' items in February/March/April. This year I bought a new tent through Cotswold Outdoor at 33% less.

A lot of tents and camping hardware tends to run unchanged for possibly years (a green tent will still be green next year and the year after etc...) so the market isn't so model year/season driven. For example my 2013 Vaude power Lizard tent i got with a third off in May this year but exactly the same thing is selling for full whack again now! On the other hand i've been buying eating kit recently and a lot of the cutlery has been reduced!

I think really you just need to keep looking on tweb for the item, then when you think theres a good price grab it straight away.
