This phone of mine seems to lose battery power very quickly of late . It's two years old now,and although battery life has not been brilliant . . of late it's been pretty abysmal recently.
I was going to get a new battery, but somebody has suggested that it may not be a battery problem. Any views ?

p.s. I'm not a heavy phone user by any stretch of the imagination.

Two years is new battery time.

Also, those Samsung smartphones often come preloaded with a lot of undeletable rubbish apps, many of which eat some battery. Upgrading the operating system to something like cyanogen mod - if you can or know someone helpful - will get rid of them and improved speed and battery but back everything up first and expect it to behave slightly differently.

I guess another reason battery life may suddenly get worse is if there's a virus on it. Is your virus detector up to date? Do you use things like afwall?

Got the Galaxy Ace S5830 which I think is the same phone, certainly I had the same problem after 19 months. As you say it wasnt that good to start with (although previous phone only for text and occasional phone calls, I use this one a fair bit with all the silly and pointless apps that I will be glad to get rid of when the contract is up in a few months    and I return to a pay as you go!), but soon as the battery started to go it became a real pain.

So, I got a new battery from ebay. Its was £2.99 delivered free! I cant say who it came from as I had an email from ebay to say they were investigating the seller and if I didnt get my item to contact them. I did get it and just had a look on there and the seller has now gone. But the same battery is still on there with other sellers.

The new battery is covered in a badly made gold cover with some chinese writing on it....the feedback on ebay was not good for the seller/battery anyway and I took a punt at £2.99 as it was the cheapest! The capacity on the new one is 2450mAh which is bigger than the original.

Until I read your email I had totaly forgotten about the problem as I put in the new cheapo ebay battery at the begining of September and the phone is as good as it ever was. Not sure I notice the extra capacity as I am using it more at the moment so cant say how often I charge it because use varies, but it lasts just fine and for me worth £2.99 !!

Note !....I am not suggesting you risk the cheapest replacement from ebay of course. I tried it and it worked, but I wouldnt like to suggest it is the best way to go about it...just sharing my experience of the same problem if that helps.

Two years isn't too bad for phone battery life. You could try this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4000mAh-High- ... 35c5e2a50f

To mjr. Unless this phone came with some form of virus protection already installed, it's certainly something i've not considered downloading. When you suggest things like "afwall", you are speaking to a complete techno idiot ! But i will look into your suggestion, although if it has got a virus, i suppose it will be a bit like the "barn door" syndrome.
To Sqeezebox. I've gone your route and got a new battery from Amazon. It arrived y/day,so it's to early to tell if thats cured the problem.
To patricktaylor. Now that looks very interesting.
To pete75. Perhaps i should have ordered that one.
Manythanks to all of you. I will post if it cures the problem.

Manythanks to everybody for their suggestions. :D
