Well this is pretty much what it claims to be - ‘fast and light’. It weighs in at 3lbs 10oz. Light for me anyway!
It’s straightforward to pitch even though I have never seen this kind of tripod thing with the poles before.
The inner is up within 30 seconds or so and the dangling cross/ridge pole at the top hooks in to the eyelets very easily, but without a click or anything to say ‘we are in!’
I would guess that one of the benefits to these ridge poles giving width is to keep the entrances dry?
The fly is easily orientated due to colour coded straps for the 3 corners/feet.
The poles and pegs are very light but feel highly engineered and high quality.
So, what of the tent itself?
The inner is mesh and as such almost transparent. So, on a decent night without risk of rain, it would be great to look up at the stars, but you'll be visible to others if on a campsite? (especially after dark if you've a light on)
It feels really roomy. Maybe in part that is due to the mesh giving the illusion of more space than you actually have? TNF web site says it is 28sq ft floor space, which means very little to me except when comparing to other tents that you are familiar with, I suppose?
Two big people would be perfectly fine. One with a lot of kit would be plenty comfy.
I am 5’9” and could kneel on my heels without my head touching the top at the highest point.
It has two doors, directly opposite each other. A bonus I guess, but not a clincher for me. Again though, it gives it the illusion of lots of space, more than anything. And probably very nice when 2 people camp and one or other needs to get out in the night or early morning.
The ground sheet is very light weight and I do have a concern that if laid on anything sharp or spiky, it could create some holes in it (even if only small, could compromise it’s integrity.)
I'd like to get the foot print but at £45 it isn’t cheap. Maybe I’ll just use an old tarp?
But it has a lifetime warranty, so you can buy with confidence.
All in all, this is a light weight, decent quality tent.
My one issue, isn't really an issue with the tent as such. The pole segments are a bit long when carrying on a bike, they extend over the back of the top of the rear rack. I've only had 2 other tents that I put on a bike and the poles were shorter.
Caveat- I haven’t spent a night in it yet: got it the other day and only just managed to pitch it to see how it is.
I will update later when I’ve taken it out in the wild.
